What is this webinar about?

Interpreters in many countries are required to show evidence of our continuing professional development each year. Even if this is not required, we know that we need to keep our knowledge and skills up to date throughout our careers as part of our professional practice. Sometimes, it feels like we just take part in whatever workshops cross our paths. We may not have a real plan or strategy for what we might want, or need, to improve in our interpreting, or how to go about selecting development opportunities that help us to achieve our goals. Interpreting Pathways offers this webinar to help us take a step back from the professional development process, and gives us some resources to help us plan better, which could lead to more confidence in our work and a better quality interpreting service to those we work with.

Where?

Zoom platform – Instructions on how to get connected to the efsli webinar platform will be given to registered participants.

Our trainers

Interpreting Pathways is a training organisation based in the UK, run by experienced interpreters Sarah Haynes and Elizabeth Gardner. Sarah is based in the UK and Elizabeth is based in USA, and we aim to support interpreters from different countries to learn from each other.

Sarah Haynes is a BSL/English Interpreter, based in Bristol, UK, who has experience in a wide range of settings. Sarah works as a trainer, supervisor and mentor for professional interpreters. She has also undertaken various voluntary roles, including with the Association of Sign Language Interpreters (ASLI) and NRCPD, the registration body for interpreters in the UK.

Elizabeth Gardner is an ASL/English Interpreter, based in the Chicagoland area in the US. She has been interpreting since 2003 in a variety of settings, including religious, performance and education. She holds National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and is currently working as a licensed, full-time educational interpreter with an Illinois school district.

Together, they founded Interpreting Pathways in 2017, which provides training, mentoring and supervision opportunities for professional ASL and BSL Interpreters, and initial interpreter training to support students to become qualified BSL/English Interpreters.
