1) The themes of this year’s seminar are:

Topic 1: “Integrity/neutrality as DI” (Bo Hardell)

Learning outcomes:
•What it means to be a Deaf interpreter with integrity in a tight-knit community?
•What situations would affect the neutrality of a Deaf interpreter?
•What are the useful strategies for maintaining integrity as a Deaf interpreter?

Topic 2: “Working with a sign language interpreter as a feed” (Robert Adam)

Learning outcomes:
•What is involved with working with a feeder?
•How do Deaf interpreters develop their working relationship with a feeder?
•What settings are appropriate for working with a feeder?

Training Schedule

The course will be held will in Athens (Greece) from 7th September to 8th September 2016. The training schedule is as follows:

Wednesday 7th September 9:00-17:00 Topic 1 (including 1-hour lunchtime and opening program)
Thursday, 8th September 9:00-16:00 Topic 2
Thursday, 8th September 16:00-17:00 efsliDI AGM

IMPORTANT:

Your place on the course will be confirmed by email.
Please do not book your accommodation or flight until your place on the course has been confirmed. Or if you do so, it will be at your own risk.

Selection of participants will be made according to the “first come, first served” system.
Training will take place if the required minimum number of participants has registered.

2) Who are the trainers?

Our trainers will be Bo Hardell and Robert Adam.

Robert Adam is a Deaf interpreter and trainer who has worked as a practitioner and a researcher over a period of 25 years. He has worked as a Deaf interpreter in Australia and in the UK, and is a registered interpreter and translator in the UK (Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting (BSL/ASL) and Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Translation (BSL/English)). He is also accredited by the WFD and WASLI as an International Sign Interpreter. He works at University College London and his research interests include bilingualism, language contact, minority languages, interpreting and translation.

Bo Haardell is a native Danish Sign Language signer, and he has been working in the interpreting field for almost 15 years as a deaf interpreter, translator, trainer, professional advisor and project manager. He has recently earned a master’s degree in Sign Language Interpreting and is an accredited International Signs interpreter by WFD and WASLI.

Correspondence with efsli and official documents will be in English.

6) How much does it cost?

The registration fee includes coffee breaks. Participants will have to arrange for their own accommodation and travel.
Payments must be made the same day of registration. If not, your registration is not valid.

Individual membership is open to Sign Language Interpreters within Europe and other interested persons who subscribe to the aim and objectives of efsli.

7) I want to cancel my registration. Can I get a refund?

Please be advised that if you wish to cancel your registration then the following cancellation policy applies.

If your cancellation is received:

  • before 30th August 2016: 50% refund (minus bank transfer fee)
  • after 30th August 2016: no refund

Changes in registration: 50 Euro (it will be applied if you decide not to cancel your registration but send someone else instead of you).

Cancellations must be sent by email to admin@efsli.org and need to be officially confirmed by efsli.
