2) Who is our trainer?

Our trainer will be Yvonne Waddell (Scotland)
Yvonne qualified as a BSL/English Interpreter in 2010, have managed CPD training events for qualified interpreters, and have been teaching at Heriot Watt University on the British Sign Language (Interpreting, Translating and Applied Language Studies) MA degree. She holds a Masters in BSL/English Interpreting Studies, and she is currently in the last year of Doctoral study at Heriot Watt University. Throughout her studies, she has continued to practice as a BSL/English Interpreter, and to mentor trainee interpreters. She is currently the interpreter coordinator for Scottish Government’s National Advisory Group on the BSL (Scotland) Act.
As an experienced mental health interpreter, she decided to focus her PhD research within that area. Her study focuses on the therapeutic relationship within the interpreted interaction, between mental health nurses, Deaf patients, and Sign language interpreters. She was the designated interpreter for The Scottish Mental Health Service for Deaf People, Scotland’s only national specialist service for Deaf people and she continues to work in mental health settings as a community interpreter.
She enjoys delivering training to her fellow interpreters, and to be able to share her research and knowledge in this area, to support them to improve their practice.
