efsli as a Partner

IISE:

efsli is a supporting partner IISE

IISE (Training Sign Language Interpreters – International Settings) is a two year EU funded project, which will research, collect and promote good practices in sign language interpretation. The idea of the project has risen from the fact that the Deaf people participate more and more in different international events, where interpretation is often provided in several different languages. Interpreters of spoken languages have a longstanding experience of cooperation in such settings. Sign language interpreters, however, are more used to working independently and solely with the client, although collaboration with colleagues would be equally beneficial awareness and communication.

The final output will be published as a dvd-rom. Compiled course materials will also be properly tested during the seminars of efsli (European Forum of Sign Language Interpreters) in 2009 and in 2010, where the professionals of the field gather together. In addition the project will develop a web-based “Quick Guide to Working with International Interpreter Teams”.al for sign language interpreters. The main aim of the project is to develop course materials for educational package called “Sign Language Interpreting in International Settings”. The educational package will cover topics like team interpreting, relay interpreting, deaf interpreters as part of the interpreting team and intercultur
