Check your
eligibility
Here you can read guidelines on application criteria for applying for support from SAF and your eligibility for support.
General information
The efsli Supportive Attendance Fund (previously Special Attendance Fund) has been set up to provide funds mainly to sign language interpreters from European countries with a cost-of-living index of 50 or lower to attend an efsli Trainings and Conference.
These eligible countries are listed on our website. Under special circumstances, applications from interpreters from European countries with a higher cost-of-living index may be considered as well.
Applications will be processed by the SAF-committee, which is a sub-committee of efsli. The fund will not cover 100 percent of the costs needed to attend the efsli Training or Conference. The fund can be used to cover parts of travel costs (amount agreed by the committee), accommodation costs (up to 100%), conference/ training/ event fee (up to 100%) or a combination of the above.
Applicants are expected to also contribute or seek out other funding opportunities. Applications will be processed by a deadline agreed by the committee before each event and the successful applicants will be informed of how much funding has been approved. They will have to fill out a reimbursement form to be able to receive the funds.
They will also be informed of their obligations towards efsli (please refer to section heading “Requirements of Successful Applicant”).
All applicants will receive an email notifying whether their application was successful or not. The funds will be paid after the applicant attended the event which they applied for.
Eligibility
criteria
1.
The applicant must be a sign language interpreter or, in exceptional circumstances, another professional working in the field of deafness/interpreting.
2.
The applicant must reside in one of the countries on the list of eligible countries (See further down this page). The cost-of-living index of the eligible country must be 50 (fifty) or less at the time of application.
3.
The SAF-committee may, under special circumstances, approve applications from applicants from other European countries which are not on the list of eligible countries.
The applicant cannot
apply for funding if:
1.
They are planning to work as an interpreter at the efsli Training or Conference.
2.
They have been convicted of an offence concerning their professional conduct by a judgement, which has the force of res judicata.
3.
They have been guilty of grave professional misconduct proven by any means, which the funding authority can justify.
4.
They have been the subject of a judgement, which has the force of res judicata for fraud, corruption and involvement in a criminal organisation or any other illegal activity detrimental to efsli’s interests.
Application guidelines
Fill out the form completely and send it before the deadline stated in the call for applications for each event. Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.
It is possible to apply in written English of International Sign. You can write the link to your IS videos in the online form or request a video call with the SAF-committee to complete your application together.
The videos must be received, and the video call must be completed before the deadline stated in the call for applications for each event.

Successful applicant requirements
→ The efsli Membership can ask applicants to use them as an example to promote the fund by publicising details of the successful applicant.
→ Successful applicants will be required to provide a short report following the Training or Conference on how it was a benefit to them. This report will be subject to publication by efsli on our website and/or published in the efsli newsletter. This can be done anonymously.
→ IMPORTANT: Successful applicants will be encouraged to share the experience and what they have learnt with fellow sign language interpreter colleagues in their country.
A grant is made but you cannot attend
If an applicant is unable to attend after having obtained funding, the following criteria apply:
→ Contact the SAF-committee as soon as possible. They can give the funding to an
applicant on the waiting list or look for a substitute.
→ The SAF-committee will be responsible for deciding in all cases where a successful
applicant is unable to attend and will consider all circumstances when making their
decision.
→ If the applicant is unable to attend and no substitute or other solution can be found,
costs caused to efsli will be reclaimed from the applicant.
