efsli / Funding Sources
Funding Sources
efsli’s activities are supported by a combination of memberships, grants, and partnerships. This financial structure ensures that we can continue to serve as the European umbrella organisation for sign language interpreters, fostering professional development and strengthening the interpreting profession across Europe.
Membership Contributions
- Affiliated Country Memberships: National organisations of sign language interpreters contribute as affiliated members, enabling collaboration and representation on a European scale.
- Individual Memberships: Individual members support efsli’s work while benefiting from exclusive resources and discounted rates for professional training and events.
These memberships are crucial to sustaining efsli’s mission of advancing the professional development of sign language interpreters and providing opportunities for growth.
EU Operating Grants
A significant part of efsli’s funding comes from the Capacity Operating Grant under the Erasmus+ Programme, managed by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). This grant supports the overall operations and strategic activities of organisations that align with EU policies, focusing on education, equity, inclusion, and diversity.
This grant has enabled efsli to:
- In 2023, develop the Toolkit on Working Conditions, addressing disparities in sign language interpreter training and working conditions across Europe.
- Organise the 2023 Annual Event, Rights, Right?, which served as a platform for addressing interpreters’ labour rights and fostering transnational collaboration.
- In 2024, host a roundtable with stakeholders and a Future Workshop aimed at strengthening national sign language interpreter organisations.
- Redesign the efsli website to better serve its members and visitors.
efsli also provides accessible webinars and training tailored to meet the diverse needs of Deaf communities, including Deafblind individuals, to ensure that interpreters are equipped to work in various settings and contexts.
Partnerships and Sponsorships
efsli welcomes partnerships and sponsorships that align with its core mission and values. Collaborations are particularly important in supporting the Annual Event, a cornerstone of efsli’s work that facilitates professional development and networking for sign language interpreters.
efsli is also open to participating in projects that align with its core values of equity, inclusion, and professional excellence. By working with like-minded organisations, we aim to contribute to the advancement of the interpreting profession and the training of interpreters for diverse Deaf communities, including Deafblind individuals.
Our Commitment to the Future
efsli is committed to:
- Providing high-quality training opportunities for interpreters through webinars, workshops, and events.
- Developing resources that address the needs of interpreters and their organisations across Europe.
- Mapping the working conditions and training disparities among member countries to create tools for advocacy and improvement.
By supporting efsli through membership or collaboration, you help strengthen the interpreting profession and its capacity to meet diverse needs across Europe.
