The European Forum of Sign Language Interpreters (efsli) has an immediate opening for an Executive Director for 20 hours per week.
NOTE:
In April the efsli board sent out the vacancy for efsli Executive Director. The efsli board received over 30 applications for the position. The majority of the applicants were not related to the field of sign language interpreting. Considering all the applications, the efsli board finds the relationship with the field of sign language interpreting very important and has therefore revised the requirements and re-opened the vacancy. The efsli board regularly receives requests for input on topics that relate to the status or the development of the profession of sign language interpreters. In order to provide well-founded consultations, efsli would like to call on the additional support of experts in the field. Please download the full text of the call >>>here. Registration to the efsli Summer school is now open. The Summer school will take place in Tallinn, Estonia, 29th June - 1st July 2011. school's theme is “Ethical dilemmas and role conflicts in sign language interpreting” and the trainer is Peter Llewellyn-Jones from the University of Leeds, UK. World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) is seeking a qualified intern to work in the WFD General Secretariat, based in Helsinki, Finland, for a period of three months. The preferred timing for the internship would be 1 September-November 2012. More information >>>here.
2nd AIIC Workshop 'Interpreters-for-Interpreters' will be held on 13th July 2012, in Berlin, Haus de Kulturen der Welt.
The event is open to AIIC Interpreters as well as to Pre-Candidates and Candidates, colleagues from the VKD and other Interpreters' associations and also graduates from interpreting courses at all universities or training centres. The topics include Booth Yoga (Conrado Portugal), Dealing with High Sensitivity (Sabine Breit), There is an app for that! How Interpreters can use the iPad for (virtually) everything (Alexander Drechsel), Retirement Provisions for Interpreters (speaker tbc), It takes (at least) two to tandem, How interpreters can train together without too much expense and difficulty (Almute Loeber) and others. The COST-funded SignGram Training School will be held at IDGS, University of Hamburg on August 3 - 5. See further details (content of courses, instructors, accomodation, application etc.) at http://www.sign-lang.uni-hamburg.de/events/cost/. The selected students (15) will receive a grant of 300 euros to support travel and daily allowance and will be notified on 20th of May. 2012. The SignGram Training School is free of charge. It is very much appreciated if you encourage your students to submit their application and to attend the upcoming SignGram Training School.

We are happy to announce that the efsli Autumn school will take place from 23rd to 26th November 2012 in the UK in cooperation with SIGNAMIC.
The school topic will be 'Deaf Interpreters in a team - Part 2: The next step!' This is to follow up on the efsli Spring school held in Prague in 9 - 11 April 2010, Czech Republic. This training will enable participants to ACTUALLY work with other interpreters (deaf and hearing), learn how to understand each other%u2019s roles, becoming a feeder interpreter, tips on co-working, the dos and the donts, and so on. It will focus on the actual hands-on practical aspects and putting yourselves to the test by doing it for real.

The students of the University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau, Germany announce the first conference for European Students of Sign Language Interpreting (ESOSLI) from May 17th to May 20th 2012. The conference will bring together European SLI students in order to exchange information, learn together and to build lasting professional networks that will strengthen the ties of SLIs in Europe. The keynote speakers are Robert Lee and Peter Llewellyn-Jones from the U.K., and Irma Sluis from the Netherlands. Download the conference flyer >>>here.
EUD congratulates efsli for the co-operation with the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC). Because of the successful discussions between these two organisations, sign language interpreters are now welcome as members of the AIIC. See more >>>here.
